Parts and van stock, without the spreadsheet
This one is not built yet, so read it as a plan rather than a promise. Knowing what is on each truck, what a job consumed and what needs reordering is the piece most job software leaves out entirely, and for anyone who carries parts it decides whether a repair takes one trip or three. Join the early access list and tell us how your shop runs it today.
Why it is not in the first release
The launch build covers the loop that every trades business runs every day: the request, the quote, the schedule, the job, the invoice and the payment. That loop has to be right before anything else matters, because a shop that cannot invoice reliably does not care what its van stock looks like.
Inventory is the next tier of work, alongside two way texting and reviews. We would rather ship the loop properly and add parts tracking on a foundation that already holds together than ship a thin version of both.
- The job loop first, in full
- Parts tracking next, on top of it
- No half version of either
What we are designing
The shape follows from how the work actually goes. A part lives somewhere, a job consumes it, and somebody needs to know before the shelf is empty rather than after.
- What is on each truck and what is at the shop
- Parts consumed on a visit, from the phone
- A reorder point per item, not a monthly count
- Cost carried onto the job it was used on
What you can do today
Until it is built, the launch product still covers the part of this that costs you money most often. A quote can carry the parts and their prices, a deposit can be collected before you order anything, and the photos and notes on the visit record what actually went in.
That does not tell you what is on the truck. It does mean the job, the price and the proof all sit together, which is where most of the disputes come from.
- Parts as lines on the quote and the job
- Deposits before you order materials
- Photos of what went in, on the visit
Tell us how you run it now
A clipboard, a spreadsheet, a count every Friday, or nothing at all and a guess. However you do it, that is the thing we need to hear before we design the screen. People on the early access list get asked first, and what they say moves the order of the list.
- Join the list and say what you carry
- Tell us what a stockout costs you
- Shape it before it is built

Straight answers about inventory
This page describes work that is planned, so the answers say so.
Can I track parts in Foldrule today?
Not as stock levels. You can put parts on a quote and on a job with their prices, and photograph what you installed, but Foldrule does not yet know what is sitting on your truck.
When will inventory arrive?
It is in the first group of work after launch, alongside two way texting and reviews. We are not going to give you a date we cannot keep, and we will tell the early access list before anyone else.
Will it cost extra when it comes?
No. Every feature is on every plan, and that is not going to change for this one. Your plan depends on team size and nothing else.
Can I still use Foldrule if I carry a lot of parts?
Plenty of shops will. The quoting, scheduling, invoicing and payment side works the same whether you carry parts or not. What you keep doing separately, for now, is knowing what is on the shelf.
How do I influence what gets built?
Join the early access list and tell us what you carry and how you track it. We ask that list before we design, and the answers decide the order.
Will it work on the phone, out at the job?
That is the only way it would be worth having. Marking what a job used has to happen in the driveway, not back at the shop from memory, so it will work the way the rest of the mobile app does, offline included.
