Built for the shop, not the fleet

Foldrule is job management software for small trades businesses in the United States and Canada. We are pre-launch, building in the open, and talking to owners while we do it.

The problem we kept hearing

Owners running a handful of people end up with the work in three places: a calendar, a notebook in the truck and an accounting package. The quote gets written twice, the photos live in a group chat, and the invoice goes out on Sunday night because that is the first quiet hour of the week. The software that promises to fix it either prices by the seat until a growing crew costs more than it saves, or it is built for a fleet of fifty and asks you to configure it.

What we decided to do differently

Three decisions shaped everything else. Price flat by team size, so hiring does not raise your bill. Record every way money actually arrives, not just the card payments, because a week in the trades includes cash, a check, a Zelle transfer and an e-Transfer. And let the owner run the business in their own language, because plenty of very good tradespeople in the US and Canada do not work in English.

Where the money goes

Card and bank payments settle into the business’s own Stripe account at Stripe’s published rate. We never hold your funds and we take no percentage of your work. We make money from the subscription and nothing else, which keeps the incentive simple: the software has to be worth paying for.

Where we are now

Building toward launch in the United States and Canada. If you run a trades business and any of this sounds like your week, join the early access list. We contact people in the order they signed up, and we would rather hear what is wrong with it now than after we open.

Small team, strong opinions

We are a small team building one product, and we are in no hurry to become a suite. Foldrule is the request, the quote, the schedule, the job, the invoice and the payment, done properly, before anything else gets added on top. That is a deliberately narrow start, and it is the part of your week that is worth the most when it works.

Small also means straight answers. The people writing the code read the early access replies and answer the support mail, so when you tell us a screen is wrong there is nobody standing between you and the person who can fix it.

A default beats a setting
Every setting is a decision we did not make for you. We pick one, we say why, and we keep the settings screen short enough to read.
The field is the product
If it does not work on a phone in a basement with no signal, we do not count it as finished. The office screen is the easy half.
Money should be boring
Whole cents, tax worked out once, no clever rounding anywhere. A total on an invoice is not a place to be creative.
Your money is yours
It settles to your account, on the processor’s normal schedule, at the processor’s rate. We never sit in the middle of it.
Flat and predictable
One price by team size. No per user fee, no feature tier, no annual lock in.
The field comes first
The mobile app is the real product, not a companion. It works in a basement with no signal and catches up later.
Your data leaves with you
Export it any time. Closing the account removes it. No hostage taking.
